“The camera’s combination of touch screen, dedicated exposure compensation dial and clicking control dial around the lens give a high degree of direct control for such a small camera and Canon’s iterative, evolutionary approach to camera interfaces, along with a little time spend playing with the camera suggests it should work pretty well.”

  • I have full control of the camera

This camera is small but very powerful; it has a complete manual setting in which you could play around and be in total control. It has excellent light sensitivity, which results in stunning shots! You can control the settings quickly; therefore, you can capture the quality of your subject like how you want.

Why for Travel Bloggers? If you like to capture beautiful landscapes, sites, and travel-related sceneries with good results – then this is a great camera in the sense that not only it takes high-resolution photos you can use for your blog posts, but also it is very handy to carry around while on the go.

Improved light sensitivity allows for higher resolution with less noise when shooting in dark conditions, and Dynamic IS now detects and compensates for tilt and parallel movement (shift blur) to create video that’s exceptionally free of distortion. The DIGIC 6 Image Processor also enhances the performance capabilities of the PowerShot G7 X, powering full resolution high-speed continuous still shooting (even in P, Av, Tv and M modes) and the advanced star shooting modes.

  • The size is perfect, and it has a good grip

Since this camera is a compact camera, the size is very handy when traveling. It is small enough to fit a small normal bag or a camera bag yet large enough so the user’s hand can hold the camera with total control. Don’t be fooled by its size, though; this camera can take amazing photo’s almost as good as a proper DSLR (in my opinion).

Why for Travel Bloggers? I hate lugging in bulky cameras with me – been there, done that! I like having an easy to use and secure to put in my bag sort of camera; therefore, I think this is perfect for travelers who are always on the go, you don’t have to walk around with a huge camera with you.

  • It takes amazing travel photos (and videos!)

I’ve had this camera for nearly two years now, and if you browse around my website, then you’ll see the picture quality this camera can produce. Most of my photos are unedited but optimized for the web, and I believe that the quality of this camera produce is excellent considering its size.

This camera takes good videos, too! My friend is using it for her vlogs and youtube videos, and the quality is very impressive.

Why for Travel Bloggers: Nowadays engagement starts from capturing readers with high-quality and engaging photographs of your travels. Therefore as a travel blogger myself, it is important for me to produce quality pictures alongside the articles I publish. It made my traveling so much easier compared to when I used to carry a Canon 500D (plus lenses).

  • It is ideal for backpackers, travelers and photo enthusiasts

I say that this is perfect for travelers all because of my personal experience. This Canon Powershot G7x traveled with me quite a lot, and not only it takes amazing photos, which I can use for this website, but it is also very handy because of its size.

The other perk of this camera is that if you’re a travel blogger, then it is perfect also to produce high-quality images which you can transfer easily using WiFi to your smartphone and your social media accounts for daily blogger updates! Awesome, right?

  • I love the sleek design

I love anything minimalistic and pretty; this camera has it all. I love its elegant design, which is simple yet dynamic!

Why for Travel Bloggers? Come on; a little style doesn’t hurt.

  • BONUS: You can even use it for some state of the art food photography!

If you’re creative enough, everything is possible! When I bought this camera, I never thought I’d use it for food photography since I gave up on food blogging long ago. However, when I found my passion for food photography again, I faced a dilemma, how can I take excellent food shots with a compact camera? It is simple; you learn to be creative.

Why for Travel Bloggers? Some travel bloggers share their experiences on their blogs about their food adventures as well, andI’ve personally captured great food photos under low light using this camera, therefore, I can say that it is possible to take great pictures with this under some particular circumstances – for instance during a fancy dinner in a dim-lit restaurant.

“A good photo is taken by a good photographer, not a good camera… But it helps.”

I live by this mantra! I had few good cameras from the past and even once traveled with my Canon 500D with three lenses, and boy did I suffer carrying those bulky gadgets! Since I’m trying to live minimalistic nowadays, Canon PowerShot G7x sure is the perfect camera for me (and maybe for you too!)

I have this camera and I love it. But with iOS, is there an easy way to post pictures on social media or send them directly from the camera as a text message?
I think the interface and multiple steps required to transfer to the iPhone is cumbersome. Too much back and forth from the phone to camera screen, and back again.
Any step by step easier way?
    thank you

Hi! I use wifi to transfer the photos to my phone. Just download the canon app in your iOS and then connect it to your camera via wifi (exactly like you’ll connect to wifi internet) and then just use the app to navigate through your camera’s photos and choose which one you’d like to download and thats it! The photos should be in your phone and can easily share to social media 🙂

I’ve been looking at a compact system camera to carry around with my rather than my DSLR. After reading this, I definitely think I need to consider a compact digital camera before making my decision. I love that this one performs well in low lever lighting. I’m photosensitive, so not able to use the flash, so this is a much for me. Xx

This is wonderful to know, Tania! This camera is awesome. It is the only one I use when I travel 🙂 Let me know if you buy one and how it goes! Have a great day, hun. xx

I asked a photographer friend on which camera would be best to purchase. He included in the three recommendations the canon powershot g7x. He said it’s convenient in terms of point and shoot and maintaining the physical appearance of it by cleaning, which is a big hassle for DSLR.

  4. Sreeram says:

I have a Nikon DSLR which when I got was a dream come true. Now I realize that it takes a lot of space in my pack. This seems like a good alternative.

  5. Mar Pages says:

I sometimes prefer powerful compacts to a DSLR, purely because its much easier to bring around. I’m amazed at how good the food looks in low lighting!

    • evan kristine says:

I agree, Mar! Sometimes I wish to have a DSLR with me especially for longer shots but since I like to enjoy the experience, I just snap away hence making this camera perfect for me!

  6. Chris says:

I too always travel with a compact point and shoot (ours is a Sony).

My biggest condition is that it remains small enough that I can simply pop it in a pocket.

I’ve not interest in any camera that requires a bag or anything else that may prove a lure to any dishonourable local folk.

Best to just remove that temptation from sight 😉

  7. Klipdrifters says:

We currently using a Nikon D5500 and LOVE our camera. This looks like a great compact gadget to add to the equipment for hikes and longer days out, great features and performance for such a compact camera.

  8. Doreen Pendgracs says:

Wow! I was very surprised at the high price of this compact camera!

I, too, used to lug around bigger and heavier digital cameras with changeable lenses, but those days are gone.

I’ve pretty much been using my iPhone to take pics the last year or so ad the quality is excellent. But not the 21 megapixels you have in this camera.

    I may consider upgrading.
